Zendo
Karate was founded on four fundamental principles: Respect, Love,
Honesty and Sincerity. It is traditional Japanese Military style of
Karate. The physical training is strenuous - emphasizing progressive
development of strength, flexibility and aerobic capacity.
In World Zendo, the students and the quality of instructions are of
utmost importance. Our aim is to instill in our students the essence
of what we as instructors have learnt about the Martial Arts over
years of study, practice and teaching. At World Zendo, our ultimate
aim is to develop strong minds, bodies and spirits, which enhance
health and a general sense of self-esteem.
The History of Zendo has its roots starting in KyoKushin Kai Kan Karate,
whose founding member is Masutatsu Oyama. Masutatsu Oyama, in 1932,
at the age of nine, learnt the Martial Arts by studying the southern
Kempo form. Masutatsu craving for knowledge about self-defense was
magnanimous. As a result, he went on a search and by 1938 he started
practicing Okinawan Karate. Masutatsu Oyama was a resilient man and
thus, by age twenty he obtained his 4th Dan.
Masutatsu Oyama opened his first "Dojo" in 1953 in Tokyo.
World Zendo Kai Kan Karate has reminiscence not only of KyoKushin
Kai Kan, but also of Seido Karate.
The
founder of Seido Karate, Tadashi Nakamura met Masutatsu Oyama and
started training at his dojo. Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura trained hard
with great results, such as being given the opportunity to teach Karate
to American soldiers at the American base camp at Zama, while in Prep
School. With continued growth of the school, Masutatsu Oyama decided
to spread the KyoKushin Kai system to the United States. He chose
Tadashi Nakamura for this task and in 1966 he was sent to New York.
After many years in New York, Tadashi Nakamura saw changes in KyoKushin
Kai Karate that he felt was not in the best interest for the growth
of the Art and thus, withdrew from the system. Tadashi's love for
Karate would not allow him to stop, merely because he was no longer
with his instructor. Instead, he opened a school of his own known
as Seido Juku and through major and continued growth, it is now known
worldwide as "The World Seido Karate Organization". Seido
Karate had its headquarters in New York and was founded on October
15, 1976.
The Organization has grown drastically over the years with more than
fifty affiliated dojos around the world, with Jamaica hosting one
of these schools.
Shihan Lambert Plummer started as a boxer at the Guinness Gym at the
National Heroes Circle, while a student at the Kingston Senior School.
After being punched out during a training session, he switched to
Martial Arts, becoming a member of KyoKushin Karate under the instruction
of Sensei Allan Monteith in 1969.
After
Sensei Monteith's migration, he continued his training under the guidance
of Sensei Monkad 'Monty' Allen and Sensei Errol Lyn, who was the chief
instructor of Seido Karate in Jamaica. Shihan Lambert Plummer, founder
of World Zendo Kai Kan Karate Organization, gained his 1st Degree
Black Belt in 1978, his 2nd Degree in 1987 and his 3rd Degree in Seido
Karate in 1991. At the rank of 3rd Dan, Shihan Plummer found discrepancies
with the operation of the Seido Karate Organization and thus decided
to branch off and started a school of his own. He respectfully resigned
from that organization in 1993.
Zendo Kai Kan Karate was created by Shihan Plummer on July 27,1993.
Its founding members were Jading Greenland McLauchin, Karl Tai Loy,
Christopher Collman, Derek Dodd, Dalton Toy Loy, Keith Edwards and
Marcus Reid. The members have since left to form their own system.
It is the first Martial Arts to be created in Jamaica. A superior
form of exercise and self-defense, Zendo is a complete programme of
physical and mental conditioning that is both safe and effective for
persons of all ages. It is also created to encourage total fitness
of its students. The techniques are designed to strengthen the cardiovascular
and muscular system while learning self-defense.
The school's fully equipped gym enhances this development of mind
and body. Our instructors understand that people have different reasons
for training and their instructions take that in account, however,
discipline and order are never compromised. Whatever your motivation,
physical fitness, self-defense, mental discipline, toning, strength
building or slimming, then the place to be is Zendo Kai Kan! |
