  BLACK BELT INSTRUCTORS

World Zendo Kai Kan Karate was created on July 27, 1993 by then Sensei Lambert Plummer. Over the years there has been a steady increase in the number of black belts produced. During the last ten years, Zendo Karate has produced over seventy black belts with our youngest being only eight years old. Some of our black belts have left to form their own system while others have migrated. Still others have moved on to become qualified instructors in our system and this has motivated others to work hard so as to be instructors. All our black belts are trained to be professionals in the art and this is reinforced, as every month a day is set aside for a training clinic.

Role of Black Belts

Hanshi Plummer explained that in the traditional karate organization, black belts who had invested time and money in their training had no guidelines as to what they could do to see a return on their investments or preparing to conduct the administrative functions for martial arts in respect to both the culture of the martial arts organization and the economics of the business.
Unlike traditional karate organizations, World Zendo has set clear guidelines and procedures as it relates to the above in keeping with Zendo's mission statement. This means that black belts in the Zendo organization can entertain expectations not only to grow in seniority i.e. from Senpai to Sensei, to Kyoshi, to Shihan, to Kaicho but also to start their own Zendo franchise or to earn income from various promotions within the organization.

Expectations of Black Belts
Hanshi's expectation of World Zendo black belts is that they should understand the philosophy of the organization of which they are members, especially as it relates to other martial arts organizations. They should make objective decisions based on this understanding that they should be secure in their beliefs and that they should support each other. But above all these, Hanshi's wish is that they arrive at an understanding and appreciation of the level of democracy that exists within the organization even as they come to understand that democracy is not synonymous with laissez faire but carries with it the responsibility of respecting the rules of the organization.
